The Lines Of Maui

October's Theme for the City Photo Bloggers is LINES, and I'm showcasing the (ugly) telephone and electrical lines. They look rather interesting juxtaposed against the beauty of Maui's natural elements, eh?

Please see how other cities around the world interpret 'lines' in their photos below.

Flying By Mauna Kea

This is such a special photo, and even though it's not strictly of Maui, I wanted to share it with you. On our journey eastward, we passed by the summit of Maua Kea peeking through the clouds on the Big Island.

If you look closely, you can see the observatories.

Last Photo Before Vacation

I'm back from vacation--refreshed and ready to post again! Mahalo Nui Loa for those who emailed me and checked-up on me--I was really touched by these emails!

There were so many fabulous photos from my journey that it's taking me awhile to look them over, sort through them, crop them, and ready them for posting. Eventually I'll be posting them under various themes on my travel blog Vintage-Tees.

The photo above is the newly re-designed airport restaurant in Kahului Airport, the main airport in Maui, called Sammy's Beach Bar & Grill. It is partly owned by Van Halen front man and rock star Sammy Hagar.

One-hundred percent of the profits will go to local Hawaii charities via Hagar's Red Rocker Foundation, which supports children's organizations.

The menu is better than the old restaurant, the food is better, and the prices are higher. Maui still rocks with some of the highest dining prices in the States. :-)

Wedding Buffet

The delicious buffet was catered by Longhi's, a well-established fine dining restaurant on Maui.

And The Men Dance Too

It's not ONLY the women who dance--so do the men! Here is one who danced at the wedding celebration.

The Right Moves

Many dancers performed at the wedding celebration, and here's another one of my favorites.

Beautiful Dancer

The dancers at the wedding danced with a dried Hawaiian gourd called a ipu which is struck by the palm and fingers or sometimes the body in rhythm to the hula.

Blowing The Conch

Reverend Valentine "Tino" Rosete blows the conch to begin the wedding ceremony. This blowing of the conch is considered correct protocol and marks the official beginning of the sacred ceremony. It is a call to the divine, and there is meaning to the number of blows. The ancient Hawaiians communicated with the use of conch shells.

Pretty Pretty

As I wrote in the post before yesterdays post, we attended a beautiful wedding this past Saturday and would be posting more photos from this event.

Here is the beautiful bride with her bridesmaids.
