March Theme (Wo)Men at Work

I submitted a question to the forum if women counted in this theme for March, "Men At Work". However, I wasn't able to find a reply, so I am advised by my partner to "live dangerously" and submit my 'women at work'. I happen to love this photo of a woman working with the yellow tape as she blocks off a parking lot for an event.

62 Photobloggers are participating in March's theme: Men at Work. You can click on the links below to enjoy their themed photos.

Dolphin Mobile Home

Around our property I have hung many wind chimes and rustic mobiles such as this one made from clay and driftwood. The clay dolphins have hollowed out interiors, and wasps have made a cozy home within them. When the winds blow (as they do frequently), the sounds from our various wind chimes, bells, and mobiles create a beautiful symphony.

Can anyone tell me where or how I took this photo? It's hasn't been retouched or photoshopped btw.

Time To Chill

In upcountry Maui (on the way to the Haleakala crater) the weather is cooler, and you can often find a wonderful fire at the Kula Lodge hearth. A couch and chairs face this rustic hearth, and the vibe is cozy and welcoming. This lodge has been here for many years, and it also has a wonderful art gallery and restaurant with amazing views. The nearby Kula Marketplace opened this past year which sells food, drink and gifts.

Jungle Enchantment

We love to get out and explore the many wonderful hiking trails of Maui. And being the kind of person who revels in the beauty of Nature combined with being snap-happy, I return with lots of Nature photos. Some of these places feel enchanted like this one.

Rainbow's End

In answer to your question, Kate, Ram Dass is one of the great spiritual teachers of our age. His books "Be Here Now" and "The Only Dance There Is" were instrumental in my spiritual growth, and dare I say, for hundreds of thousands as well. After his stroke, he moved to Maui. You can read more about his work and his organization here: Ram Dass and here on Wikipedia.

Here is a photo I took on the same day I took his photo. We were driving up the Haleakala Highway to Kula with a rainbow sometimes directly ahead, sometimes to the side of us as we circled up the mountain. Depending upon the light and the angle, this rainbow would dim or brighten.

The Fame Name Game

I photographed this beautiful soul yesterday. Can any of you name this famous person?

A Famous Face

Kris Kristofferson is one of many famous singers/actors who make Maui their home. He lives in Hana (East Maui) with his wife and family.

Another Awesome Sunset

Last evening we dined at a restaurant which faces the water. We had the booth next to the window, so it was super easy for me to capture some great sunset photos. I like this one especially because of the arc of light.

Now for some shameless self promotion: One of my other blogs: Way Khool Sites is featured as the Blog of the Day on Fuel My Blogs.

I could use a little click-love for my worthy blog Way Khool Sites, which Pays It Forward by highlighting other worthy blogs and sites. Mahalo Nui Loa ahead of time!

Last Light on Palm

This photo was taken yesterday (Whale Day on Maui). The sunset was absolutely gorgeous, and I like the way this palm tree contrasted with the sunset.

Entering Into Mamas

This is the charming entrance to the famous North shore Maui restaurant, Mama's Fish House. The food is divine, the ambience and view are amazing, and the bill for your pleasure, errr...expensive. But worth it!

Botero Sculpture

This is one of many large, beautiful Botero sculptures inside the Grand Wailea Resort in Wailea. I'm a huge fan of Botero's work--it's very sensual. Botero is a Columbian artist and sculptor, and his work is displayed worldwide.

Maui Mysteries

As my partner and I were making a shortcut the other day on a side street, we passed by this culvert and drainage ditch. I begged him to stop so I could take this photo. I know it's not the most gorgeous photo I've ever posted here, but there is a story to go with it!

Most of the Hawaiian Islands are riddled with underground lava tubes--many of which go straight into the ocean. Some of the lava tubes you can actually walk through. A group of us walked through one at the bottom of Haleakala Crater. In any event, rumor has it there are supposed to be lots of interconnecting underground tubes and entrances. Could this be one? I'm too much of a baby to investigate, but I'm still curious!

Spots and Stripes

I like the way the shadows fall in this photo of my cat Anela. She was adopted by our family as a baby, and her markings look similar to many other 'local' cats. Maui is over-run with feral cats, and these feral cats are very controversial with different methods, organizations, and ideas of how to control the wild cat population.

Papaya Heart

This is a vintage photo from my stash. My partner opened a papaya for breakfast, and we discovered a perfect shaped heart!

Baby Plumeria

This is a brand new planting of a plumeria (flower) plant. We have two other large plumeria trees on our property, and now we have two babies. Plumeria blossoms are gorgeous and are often strung onto leis. What captures me about this photo is the difficulty in telling where the plant begins and its shadow. I'm weird like that.

Old Go Kart Track

Maui only has one old Go Kart Track which is pretty small and basic. I miss the really good ones like on the Mainland. Perhaps because land is so expensive over here, no one wants to invest in one, but I think a good, new one would be really successful. So if there are any investors reading this, consider adding one--also a new bowling alley and more car wash places. Mahalo Nui Loa for doing this for us Maui-ans! Smile!

Waterfall pools are chilly, and I took this photo as two friends shivered as they stepped into another Hana waterfall pool for a bracing swim.

Maui the Demi-God

This is a large mural painted on the wall of the main dining room within the Grand Wailea Resort. It's huge and depicts Maui the Demi-God lassoing the Sun to make it go slower over the Hawaiian Islands so the tapa cloths would dry faster.

Framed

This is the upscale Kealani Resort, a gorgeous resort in Wailea. It's all white and has a Moorish feel to is, don't you think?

Yesterday I discovered a Conde Nast Travel Photo Dream Trip 2007 Contest to anywhere in the world, and I've been busy uploading some of my favorite Very Special MOMENTS in travel photos and submitting them along with brief stories. I want ya'll to know about it too so you can either add your favorite photos and win prizes AND VOTE FOR MY PHOTOS TOO! :-)

Thus far, I have submitted some of my favorite photo moments from these locations: India, Tibet, Thailand, Egypt, and Peru. I plan to enter more. If you go to the website, they have the categories of locales listed, so you can find my photos. My blog name of Kuanyin is noted, so I can be easily found. Please vote for me, and let me know if you submit yours, and I'll vote for you! Even if you merely comment, you can win prizes. Here's the link. At the very least, you'll get to view even more fabulous photos.

Day At a Smaller Beach

Yesterday I went to my favorite beach, and I discovered two thirds of the beach had been washed away by the storm we had here last week. So everyone was all scrunched and lined up on what little was left of the beach. Usually everyone is more spread out as there is more beach to go around.

Heavenly Hana

Hana is a town in East Maui--well known as Heavenly Hana because it IS! Green pastures, amazing vistas, jungles, waterfallpools, great hiking trails, and cattle make this part of rural Maui most beautiful!

Can anyone tell me what I photographed here? Hint: it's something you see quite often on Maui.

On a side note, I have added Plusmo to my sidebar--a great way to get this blog on your mobile phone. You will see a little blue phone if you're looking for it.

Dining Outdoors

One of the many great things about living in Hawaii is you can dine outdoors year round. This table with the shadows from greenery and lattice looks very welcoming and appealing to me.
