Happy New Year's Eve

Whether it's a Beamer (BMW) convertible or a Sunbeam convertible that makes your heart race, may each and every one have their dreams come true this year!

Happy New Year's Eve!!!! Or as we say here in Hawaii: Hau'oli Makahiki Hou!

Cars Can Seem Strange

I photographed this strange looking convertible in a parking lot recently. I have never heard of a car called a Sunbeam! This car was in cherry condition, and it reminded me of a car from the 50's!

New Growth

These bamboo shoots are growing so quickly. They are located near the Southwest corner of our property, and I've been watching them grow. Bamboo is the fastest growing plant on the earth I once read, and it's amazing to witness this growth on a daily basis.

Wiki Slippers

These are wiki slippers, and they function as dust mops for wood floors in Hawaii. They come in all colors and designs, and are they ever fun! You slide around on your floors cleaning them as you talk on the phone or whatever. Then you throw them into the washing machine. I consider them one of the best inventions to come along in recent years. You have to be kinda careful though because you can slide so fast with them you can fall down. I haven't fallen yet, but I've come close a couple of times.

Another Christmas Tree

This is the Christmas tree put up by a couple who haven't had a tree up in over a decade. Many ornaments which were purchased for it through the years were finally displayed this year!

Ye Olde Gingerbread House

This Gingerbread House is located within the Stella Blues Restaurant in Kihei.

Does anyone know the legality of posting photos of others without their written consent? If so, please email me or make a comment. The reason I inquire is because I took the most adorable suited Santa Claus with a mother and her two children photo yesterday at the Mall while they are were getting their Santa Claus photo taken, and I am hesitant to post it if there would be a legal problem or other.

Merry Christmas (Mele Kalikimaka) to all of the Daily Photos and City Photos! Mu-ahhhh to Eric and Denton and all of you beautiful photo bloggers for your amazing gifts, dedication, art, and hard work! You & your photos are loved and appreciated!

Unfinished Christmas Tree

Yes, I confess. I haven't finished decorating our Christmas tree. Notice the top branches are empty--that's because I have to get a ladder out of the closet and ACTUALLY step up on it with the decorations balanced in a box and lean over a lot to place the ornaments. Since everyone I know is as super busy as myself, putting the decorations and the star on top will require me to perform this task by myself which will require lots of up and down the step ladder to check and see if all the ornaments are looking balanced. Somehow this finishing of the tree has YET to be priority in my life. Notice the small number of gifts under the tree? That's because this year we're doing Christmas at TWO other homes, and this tree is basically just for jolly decoration.

And how is your Chrismukkah Season going? Glad Tidings from our home to yours!

Onion Soup for Brunch

The Five Palms Restaurant on the beach has a different way of preparing onion soup...in other words, it's non-traditional, but at the same time VERY tasty.

The Tourists Are Coming in Droves

Jet skies are outlawed during whale season, except for lifeguards and such. Every year it seems there is an unfortunate accident/collision between a speeding boat and a whale, so this action picture is from my archives, and I'm posting it today because I felt it was time for an action shot.

Symbol

Do you recognize this symbol? I took this photo from above and looking down on a kiosk the other day at the Kaahumanu Mall.

On another note, I am jazzed/stoked/elated as my VERY first published photo arrived yesterday in the mail. I submitted a photo to the Art Wanted this past year to be included in their Art Wanted 2007 Daily Art Calendar of Photography. And one of mine got selected! Yippeee! Since I consider myself a raw, amateur photographer, this is HUGE for me. The Art Wanted site is where many photographers and artists sell their work, but I've never downloaded any of my photographs on their site yet because I haven't felt worthy.

This photo of the statue of the former Queen of Hawaii was taken at the Queen Kaahumanu Center, the biggest shopping center on Maui.

One More Tree

This is the Christmas tree in the Big Wave Cafe, a friendly, laid-back restaurant located in Kihei. It will be open on Christmas Day for tourists and others who choose not to cook, and their Christmas day menu looks outstanding!

Yet Another Gorgeous Flower

Some may be getting tired of me posting static items like flowers, sculptures and Christmas trees. I'll try to find something that moves soon! :-) This flower bloomed in my yard recently.

Kealani Resort Christmas Tree

I realized this series of Maui Christmas trees might be a little boring, so I tried to mix-it-up a bit with this one from the Kealani Resort by shooting from an angle with a little bamboo thrown in!

Christmas Carols

These youngsters were singing Christmas carols yesterday at Maui Mall. If you look closely, you will see many different races, nationalities and blends of people. This is one of the many reasons I love Maui, and why many others do too: hence, the expression "Maui No Ka Oi" (which translates to "Maui Is The Best") for we truly have an incredible blend of races living here--for the most part in harmony. I like it when all races and groups blend together in sweet harmony.

Strawberry Crepe Delivered

One day I received a knock on the door, and a new neighbor had made this freshly cooked (and very yummy) strawberry crepe for me with real whipped creme even. Now this neighbor has moved, and where he once lived reside a sweet man & woman with excellent computer skills who make trouble-shooting house calls when my computers act-up. I Be Blest!

I discovered these artfully created sand butterflies one day while beach cruising near sunset. If you look closely, you can see three of them.

Hibiscus

This beautiful red hibiscus flower is blooming now in front of my home. Hawaiian tradition has it that if you wish to attract a lover, you tuck one of these red flowers behind your right ear. Even the word hibisc(us) has "us" within it. Interesting, yes?

Makena Beach

Makena Beach in the old days is very different than it is now. Back then, everyone ran around nude--that was the 60's. I wasn't there, but I've seen photos of what a great hippie colony it was. Makena Beach was similar to the famous Taylor Camp on Kauai. Only a dirt road ran to this beach. Today there's STILL a nude beach just over a little hill--it's called Little Beach. :-) Even as little as 15 years ago, you could gallop a horse down the beach. No more. The County has approved a big construction project for multimillion dollar homes to be built on this beach.

Jungle Foliage

As Yuppied-Out as some neighborhoods of Maui have become, we STILL have jungles, wildlife, forests, and wild areas where the devas are abundant.
