Iao Needle

This is Iao Needle in Iao Valley, a popular tourist destination and a place where many weird lights are seen late at night.

Blue Pool Rainbow

This very special natural pool has attracted controversy in recent years when its location (near Hana) was published in a guide book. Before that, it was something of a local secret, and one had to be directed to it. Now the owners of the land are upset about having its destination known. This photo was taken many years ago when very few knew of this pool---I believe it is a very sacred pool.

Soft Beauty

Flowering trees are abundant on Maui, and they bloom in different seasons. I'm not informed of all their names. One of these days I should purchase a tree/shrub/flower book so I can learn their names and thus contribute more details for this blog.

Thanksgiving Day Sunset

This sunset was the perfect ending for a perfect Thanksgiving Day which for me meant ZERO cooking, zero work, zero aggravation and TOTAL appreciation, gratitude and surrender to What Is.

Mother Mary

Many years ago I purchased this Madonna statue and with the help of a friend, we lugged it home. It is super heavy! This is how Mother Mary looked when she was first purchased. Through the years I have moved her around on my property in search of the perfect location. For the last five years, Mother Mary has been happily residing under a shady mimosa tree surrounded by roses & crystals and many shell and kukui nut leis draped upon her.

Up, Up and Away

This airplane replica hangs from the ceiling of Ruby's Diner Restaurant in Kahului and is much bigger in person than it appears in this photo after I've cropped it. Airplanes such as this one used to cross the Pacific to the Hawaiian Islands. I've seen the original photos....those were the days when Hawaii was truly an exotic, remote location.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow Daily Photo Bloggers! I'm in gratitude to Eric, Denton, and all of you for your amazing contributions. God Bless You!

Dolphin Christmas

The Christmas decorations have already arrived--even before the Thanksgiving Holiday. You will find this display at the entrance to the Kaahumanu Center in Kahului.

Still Life Sugar

This photo is fairly self-explanatory. Maui still grows sugar cane, and this is a photo of an old sugar harvesting machine outside the Sugar Museum in central Maui.

Reaching For The Stars

I adore bougainvillea and there is a lot growing on our property--as a matter of fact, I'm off soon to buy MORE of it. This hardy plant thrives in South Maui because it can withstand the hot sun.

Energy Drinks

I recently posted about energy drinks on another of my blogs, The Art of Living and Dying. After writing this article, I decided to check out our local South Maui Safeway Grocery Store and see for myself HOW MANY different brands of energy drinks were for sale. I saw most of the energy drinks mentioned in my article and also the link I included, but I didn't see the drink called Cocaine. In any event, Maui must be buzzing like the rest of the world!

Astronaut on a Motorcycle

Digital cameras have their plus's and minus's. For capturing action shots, digitals are too slow...at least the digital cameras I use are! I must have lucked out with this shot. Of course, I didn't get all the motorcycle in the shot as I was grabbing this photo fast. This motorcyclist was way more covered up than we normally view on Maui.

Famous Sculptures

These life-sized male sculptures on either side of the blond in the middle sit outside the Ulupalakula Ranch General Store. They make a great photo op for tourists who are dropped off for wine tasting from the tour buses across the street.

I really love this photo because of it's simplicity, colors and design. The location is the bike stand for the Kaahumanu Center in Kahului, Hawaii.

Da Tree Trim Dude

Yesterday we had our six coconut trees trimmed of branches and coconuts. This is a photo of Nixon...he's Tongan with his own tree trim business on Maui, and we used his services for the first time because our other tree-trimmer wasn't available. We were impressed with his speed and mostly his clean-up service. Compared to our other guy who often left branches laying on the ground for four days before he returned to take them away, Nixon had everything cleaned up in a matter of hours and even went around the yard with a blower to get the debris off sidewalks, etc.

Up On The Roof

When I was a kid, I was a big tree-climber. I still like to climb, and yesterday I climbed on a roof to get this photo and felt like a kid again! The house photographed above is a two-story house, but since the shrubbery hides the lower level, you can't really get a sense of how high I am! In the distance you catch a glimpse of Kula.

Famous Shortcut

When I first moved to Maui a long time ago, I made a new friend who showed me all the shortcuts and side roads. This sign is at the beginning of one of these twisty, winding shortcuts which saves time.

Coconut Tree Trim Time

We have six tall mature coconut palm trees on our property, and every year at this time, we call in a Tongan tree trimmer to take down the coconuts. These coconuts are dangerous when they fall from the trees. Recently one coconut fell, and it ripped right through an umbrella and shattered the outdoor glass tabletop. Our Tongan trimmer was supposed to be here yesterday, but he didn't show up. Then it rained, and he can't climb the trees when they're slippery. So it goes on Maui as there is such a thing here called "Maui Time".

Halloween Night in Lahaina

I guess these two ladies purchased the Tacky Tourists Costume at Long's Drugstore which I posted in an earlier blog! They were having a boogie blast with non-stop dancing at the Lahaina Front Street Halloween party last night.
